Improving Your Fuel Mileage

With the prices of gas these days, every little cent saved, counts. Regardless of the car you drive there are always ways to pinch off a little more miles per gallon. Many experts and professionals will offer their methods of improving your fuel mileage, but here are a few tried and true techniques that can save you money and really improve your fuel mileage at the same time. Saving fuel is saving money and at the same time saving you from hefty car repair expenses, in the long scheme of things.

First, check your tire air pressure as part of your car care process, which should be performed monthly. This is possibly the most overlooked cause of poor miles per gallon. Additionally, check your air filter, also as a part of your routine car care inspection. A simple way you can save fuel is by slowing down when you are driving. Driving the posted speed limit will increase your miles per gallon. Also, to save fuel, accelerate slowly when pulling away from a stop light or stop sign. You don’t need to go extremely slow but if you accelerate too quickly and then have a sudden stop that will waste your fuel. Keep the weight in and on your car at a minimum. Heavier weight applies undue stress on your cars’ engine, which results in lower fuel mileage. Turn off your air conditioner, if you have a convertible put the top down or just open the windows and let fresh air in to keep you cool. Remember, saving fuel saves money and as part of your car care these tips can prevent any future damages that can be quite expensive. You may not be able to save tons of money from these tips, but you can make your fuel last a little longer and save a few cents at the same time. Over time, those cents can add up. And it’s much better than paying for expensive car repair, unnecessarily.
