Accidents

Regardless of how carefully you drive your car; there will always the possibility to be involved in a car accident.  As a part of your car care, you should always be prepared for accidents. With a few simple steps you can provide better car care in the event of an unexpected car accident. Keep emergency flares or small road cones in the trunk of your car at all times, to warn traffic if you are. Most importantly, Keep a medical information card in your car at all times for every member of your family.

When the accident occurs remember, most importantly, take a deep breathe and try hard to stay calm and try not to panic. Check if anyone is injured. First check your car passengers, and then check the other vehicle involved. If you suspect any serious injuries or are in doubt then call an ambulance as soon as possible. Call the police for any accident, serious or minor.  Turn on your emergency signal lights. Use the emergency flares or cones from the trunk of your car to warn other cars. If the accident is not a severe one, move all cars to the side of the road, out of coming traffic, if possible. Finally, let your car insurance agent know of the accident right away. Don’t leave the scene of the accident before the police give the ‘all-clear’.

Some additional tips that may come in very helpful later are:
Do not discuss the accident except with your insurance agent and to the police on the scene: even if you believe the accident was your fault, never admit this to anyone, just state only the facts when asked, be courteous to everyone involved, but never admit to the fault. Only sign papers from the police and your insurance agent, no one else. Take notes of all people and vehicles involved in the accident, including witnesses to the accident.

If your car is damaged seriously and can not be driven, call to a local car repair shop to have your car towed. Car repair expenses can be costly, but it’s possible that your car insurance will pay the repair costs. Discuss this only with your insurance agent and do not have the car repair shop begin repairs until your car insurance agrees.
